Cuban Son Loses Jose Antonio Rodriguez
Copenhagen, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuban son musician Jose Antonio Rodriguez, main singer of the famous Sierra Maestra group, died in this city Sunday after a respiratory failure ending in a heart attack.
The 55-year-old-singer, one of the island´s most outstanding son musicians, had brilliantly concluded the European tour and Cuba day at the first International Latin Music Festival of this capital hours before his death.
Rodriguez participated in the Afro Cuban All Stars project, nominated for a Grammy in 1998 and parallel to the Buena Vista Social Club.
The Cuban signer, who was born on April 17, 1950, arrived with his group to these Nordic lands after almost 20 years and acted at the Amager´s concert hall where he delighted an audience of enthusiastic admirers of his songs.
The Sierra Maestra group, composed of former students of Jose Antonio Echeverria Polytechnic University in Havana, won a contest for musicians in the 80´s.
