HAMBURG, Germany (AP) — Three Olympic boxing champions who defected from
Cuba last month will make their professional debut in April.
Heavyweight Odlanier Solis, super bantamweight Yuriorkis Gamboa and
flyweight Yan Barthelemy will fight in Hamburg on April 27, their
promoter First Artist and Arena said Wednesday.
The trio of gold medalists from the 2004 Athens Games left their hotel
while training in Venezuela for the upcoming Pan American Games and
obtained U.S. visas after passing into Colombia.
Each fighter signed a three-year contract worth at least $1 million with
the Hamburg-based company.
