MIAMI -- The U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution Thursday night
expressing solidarity with the writers, journalist and librarians in Cuba.
A statement from Senator Mel Martinez's office said the resolution calls
for the immediate release of Cuban citizens imprisoned for exercising
rights associated with freedom of the press.
Martinez, a Cuban native who represents Florida in the Senate, authored
the resolution.
It was cosponsored by Senator Bill Nelson.
