Cuba's Working Group of the International Society of Human Rights
(www.miscelaneasdecuba.net).- On Saturday, July 4th, 2009, at ten
minutes before eleven (10:50 A.M.), Cuban time, at the house of René
Gómez Manzano, in 18th Street N. 162, Apt. 2, between 13 and 15, Vedado,
municipality of Plaza, province of the City of Havana, began the
constitution meeting of the Cuba's Working Group of the International
Society of Human Rights, ISHR,
This is a most prestigious world organization for the defense of those
rights, the headquarters of which are located in Germany.
Each and every one of the members of that international organization who
at present live in Cuba was invited to attend this meeting. Due to some
absences, were present the following members (in alphabetical order):
Lilvio Fernández Luis, Jorge Luis García Pérez (Antúnez), René Gómez
Manzano, Juan Carlos González Leiva, Roberto de Jesús Guerra Pérez, Ana
Margarita Perdigón Brito and Carlos Manuel Pupo Rodríguez.
Also present was Lic. Elsa Morejón Hernández, who has requested to be
considered a mere guest representing her unjustly jailed husband, the
well-known prisoner of conscience doctor Oscar Elías Biscet González,
while he remains in jail.
The host, René Gómez Manzano, offered a brief explanation about the
mission given to him by the leadership of the International Society to
organize the celebration of this constitution meeting.
The persons assembled exchanged opinions about the activities of the
Cuba's Working Group of the ISHR, expressing special concern about the
situation of the numerous political prisoners which exist at present in
Cuba, as well as about the violation of the citizens' Human Rights in
general; in this context, they expressed their intention to continue
working jointly in favour of the excarceration of political prisoners
and in favour of the rights of all Cubans.
René Gómez Manzano was unanimously elected as president of the Working
Group.
As members of the Working Group's Executive Board were also elected, by
seven votes in favour and none against (in each case with the abstention
of the proposed candidate), the following members (in the order they
were proposed): Juan Carlos González Leiva, Jorge Luis García Pérez
(Antúnez) and Ana Margarita Perdigón Brito.
Taking into account the fact that the Executive Board is made up by an
even numbers of members, it was agreed that, in case of a tie vote, the
president René Gómez Manzano will have the deciding vote.
The meeting was held in a brotherly atmosphere and with the compromise
of working more each day in the defense of Human Rights.
