(www.miscelaneasdecuba.net).- The Cuba's Working Group of the
International Society of Human Rights, ISHR, has to denounce once more
the situation faced by Dr. Darsi Ferrer Ramírez, a member of our Group.
As it is known, since July 21 past this outstanding physician has been
in the Prison of Valle Grande, in Havana city. Cuban authorities have
tried to portrait his imprisonment as the result of a supposed common
criminal activity; but the misdemeanours for which he is allegedly in
jail (receptación and atentado), because of their relative small entity,
don't justify the harshest possible measure (provisional imprisonment)
that has been imposed and maintained against him. Besides, the accused
lacks a criminal record and he is the head of a family and an
outstanding university graduate.
Having decreed the provisional imprisonment of Dr. Ferrer Ramírez and
not having accepted the demand for the change of that measure presented
by his lawyer more than a month ago, the Castro's regime shows that the
real cause for the imprisonment of this peaceful fighter is to repress
and punish him for his licit activity in favour of the Human Rights of
all Cubans.
For that reason, our Working Group asks all men and women of good will
to denounce this new outrage, and demands Dr. Darsi Ferrer Ramírez's
immediate release.
