Students boycott school because of poor food

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, November 14 (Yoel Espinosa, Cubanacán Press /
www.cubanet.org) – A group of students at the Celia Sánchez Manduley
school in Santa Clara have refused to attend classes for the past two
weeks to protest what they say is bad food being served them.

"I chose to prepare my son's lunch but they stopped that on the grounds
that not all the parents could do that," said the mother a fourth grader
Alexander Pérez.

Some parents took their complaints to school officials, but they said
the menu remains unchanged.

The protesting students were mainly from the lower grades. The student
body totals nearly 1,000 students.
