Truck accident leaves townspeople without cooking oil
CAMAGUEY, Cuba - March 3 (Marilyn Díaz Fernández, Lux Info Press /
www.cubanet.org) - A number of residents of Sibanicú, in Camagüey
province, did not get their monthly allotment of cooking oil in February
when the truck carrying the supply overturned as it made its way to the
town, spilling the oil.
The truck, an old Soviet-made Zil 130, was transporting the oil from a
warehouse in Guáimaro municipality, when it overturned on the road
between Cascorro and Sibanicú February 16. During the accident, the
metal tank containing the oil ruptured, and the oil was lost.
Townspeople say the government-run enterprise in charge of food sales
hasn't supplied oil to replace the one that was lost, so they have not
been able to buy the half-pound of oil allotted to them under the
rationing system.
