Broken pipes concern local residents
HAVANA, Cuba - March 3 (Richard Roselló / www.cubanet.org) - Broken
pipes have been leaking thousands of gallons of drinking water onto the
streets for more than 20 days in the El Cerro municipality of Havana,
say residents.
"We have told Aguas Habana [the municipal water authority] about the
problem five times," said one resident, "but we are still waiting."
The leaks, on Alejandro Ramírez and Omoa Este Streets, by the side of La
Dependiente hospital, have carved a ditch about 300 feet long before
flowing into a sewer.
Concerned residents who complain that often they have no water service
for hours or even days are chafing about the flowing water and the water
authority's apparent inattention.
