René Gómez Manzano, President of the Cuba's Working Group of the ISHR
(www.miscelaneasdecuba.net).- The Cuba's Working Group of the
International Society for Human Rights (ISHR) hereby denounces the
recent repressive wave unleashed by the totalitarian regime against its
members as well as against the Cuban independent organizations in general.
About December 10, International Day of Human Rights, the repression was
centered especially in the activists who decided to go into the streets
and places using their right to peaceful demonstration.
In the case of Doctor Darsi Ferrer Ramírez, member of our Working Group,
we must recall that he continues to be unjustly in prison. From the jail
he summoned his followers to act in the same way as they did when he was
free; that is, to converge in the well-known Villalón Park, in this
capital, in order to meet peacefully there. Thus acted his wife Yusnaimy
Jorge Soca and the members of our Working Group Carlos Manuel Pupo
Rodríguez and Lilvio Fernández Luis, as well as the members of the
Ladies in White, the group of wives and relatives of political prisoners
known in the whole world, and other pacific activists. All of them were
harassed in that place and many—among them Jorge Soca, Pupo Rodríguez
and Fernández Luis—were detained and taken to police precincts in which
they were kept for several hours.
In the case of the member of our Board, Mr. Jorge Luis García Pérez
(Antúnez), it must be said that he was beaten in a thoroughfare; right
now he is virtually besieged in his house by the public force, which
prevents him from leaving it.
Other members of our Working Group, which took part in different acts
held in private houses where the date was recalled, were the object of
an obvious vigilance of the authorities.
The Cuba's Working Group of the ISHR vigorously denounces this
repressive wave, and demands the immediate release of Doctor Darsi
Ferrer Ramírez and the other Cuban prisoners of conscience, as well as
the end of the virtual house arrest suffered by the member of our Board
Jorge Luis García Pérez (Antúnez) and his wife.
