BEIJING—China has praised Cuba's ruling Communist Party for approving
sweeping economic and social reforms.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Tuesday the decisions
made during Cuba's Sixth Party Congress were sure to have a "profound
and far reaching impact" on the country.
Cuba on Monday approved hundreds of economic proposals, including one in
favor of legalizing the buying and selling of private property.
Communist-led China has become a major trading partner for Cuba since
the collapse of the Soviet Bloc.
