Cuba-China trade surges to 890 mln USD, up 80 percent year on year

The trade volume between Cuba and China soared to 890 million U.S.
dollars by July this year, up 80 percent on an annual base, China's
ambassador to Cuba, Zhao Rongxian, told local media on Monday.

The total trade volume in 2005 was only 830 million dollars, he added.

"Cuba is now a destination for Chinese tourists and business people;
that is why we have to promote this market," Zhao said, citing also
great potential for mutual understanding.

Zhao said that 57 years after the founding of the People's Republic of
China on Oct. 1, 1949, China will mark the anniversary with "great
advances in economic and social forces and great improvement of living
standards."

Cuba was the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic
relations with China on Sept. 28, 1960, and the last 10 years have seen
great progress in bilateral trade relations.
