Dear Mayor _____LAST_NAME________:

My name is __YOUR_FULL_NAME__ and I am a __YOUR_PROFESSION__ from ___YOUR_COUNTRY___ living in __CITY_NAME__.

Danilo Maldonado Machado, a Cuban street artist world-known as “El Sexto” has been imprisoned since 25 December 2014 for attempting to perform a public artistic action in Havana Central Park. He has been jailed for 9 months in Valle Grande prison, apparently to be charged with the crime of contempt, but without any hope for a judicial process or a defense lawyer of his choice. In a legal limbo, sadly similar to the detainees by the US government at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

Since 8 September 2015 Maldonado Machado is on hunger strike for his elementary rights as a prisoner. He claims he is innocent. The Cuban authorities has reacted by isolating him in a punishment cell, but he is resolute not to live anymore under conditions that deprive him not only of the due process of law, but also of his human dignity.

We fear the worst, as through the years many Cuban prisoners have been left to die under the Castro administration, as it was the case of the peaceful social activist Orlando Zapata Tamayo in February 2010.

Before his incarceration, Maldonado Machado was a censored artist in Cuba, and he suffered police harassment, arbitrary arrests, detentions, searches of his home, confiscation of his artworks and working materials, and political pressure upon his family. His mother María Victoria Machado is desperate and she asks for international solidarity, since in Cuba all official NGOs are not willing to pay attention to her situation (+53-58453016).

Please, we kindly request for all the possible help that you can provide in order to contact the Cuban authorities and avoid a tragic outcome in this humanitarian case.

Thank you very much for you attention,

Very respectfully,
