For FENAM, doctors trained abroad do not meet the country's needs
According federation of physicians, the quality of education of foreign
doctors to work in Brazil is still "doubtful"
The National Federation of Physicians (FENAM) understands that the
National Examination Revalidation of Doctors Diplomas (revalidates) is
an example of the quality of education of foreign doctors to work in
Brazil is doubtful. "Arguably, doctors trained abroad do not match the
needs of the Brazilian market, the formation is uncertain, precarious
and deficient. Proof of this was the result of the last revalidates
admitted that only 14% of enrollees." Said the president of FENAM
Geraldo Ferreira.
This is the position of the entity in relation to an article published
on Wednesday (23) Brazil Agency, which shows that prefeitos enfrentam
dificuldades para contratar médicos e pretendem traze-los do exterior.
The topic was addressed by the president of the Brazilian Association of
Municipalities (ABM), Eduardo Tadeu, during a meeting with the Health
Minister Alexandre Padilha.
According Tadeu, municipalities try in various ways to hire, but can not
fill the positions. "Medical graduates abroad could provide services in
the municipalities most in need, especially in primary care. Government
could relax the required examination for these professionals, even
recognizing some foreign powers," he suggested. He also defended the
expansion of places in medical schools.
The FENAM believes that to solve the problem we must establish programs
with grants or agreements with municipalities for health professionals,
valuing the Brazilian physician. "Most municipalities can not afford to
pay the doctors, the government needs to encourage municipalities to
create career plans, base salary and commit to transfers to
municipalities in need, only then will we have adequate national hiring."
