MIAMI A fugitive who was expelled from Cuba has pleaded not guilty in
Miami to a charge of jumping bond more than 40 years ago.
This time, a federal magistrate denied the man's request for bond again
while he awaits trial.
The 70-year-old man (Joseph Adjmi) was convicted of mail fraud in 1963
and sentenced to ten years in prison. But he skipped bail before serving
his sentence.
Last year, Cuban officials alerted U-S authorities that he was in their
custody in an art fraud scheme there, and asked that the United States
take him back.
His attorney in Israel says his client spent most of his time on the run
in Europe, and moved to Cuba two years ago. He was arrested there for
carrying a fake Israeli passport.
