(www.miscelaneasdecuba.net).- According to data given by Carlos Manuel Pupo Rodríguez, member of the Cuba's Working Group of the International Society for Human Rights, ISHR, it has been known that the day before yesterday, Wednesday August 5, in the town of San José de las Lajas, in the province of Havana, the following Human Rights' activists were detained: Julián Enrique Martínez Pérez and Luis González Medina, both members of the Human Rights' Party of Cuba, affiliated to the Foundation Andrei Sakharov, as well as the brothers Eddy and William Rodríguez Paredes, both members of the Movement February 24th.

After being detained in the morning, the four activists were transported to the police precinct of the town of Güines, also in the province of Havana, where they remained until approximately six o'clock in the evening (6:00 P.M.) of that same day, when they were set free.

Among Human Rights' observers, the opinion prevails that these and other detentions performed that day were due to the fear of the Cuban communist régime that pro-democracy activists will commemorate the XV Anniversary of the spontaneous uprising in Havana's Malecón of great masses of the population of the Cuban capital, an event which has gone into history with the name of "el Maleconazo".

Information of René Gómez Manzano, president of the Cuba's Working Group of the International Society of Human Rights.
