Cuban singers defect, but show goes on
Close to a dozen members of the Coro Cubano, the National Chorus of Cuba, have defected in Toronto.
The 40-voice choir, which performs new works by Cuban composers, is on a cross-Canada tour. It's expected the defectors will apply for refugee status.
The rest of the choir will perform on Saturday with Jon Washburn's 20-voice Vancouver Chamber Choir. Washburn says the show will continue, but some works may have to be amended to accommodate the changes in the Cuban group.
"The worst part is that the remaining members of the choir are dispirited to have lost some of their members," Washburn says
