Gamma predicted to miss Florida, strike Cuba

Gamma predicted to miss Florida, strike Cuba

Sunday, November 20, 2005
Tropical Storm Gamma appeared ragged and disorganized Saturday and was
drifting erratically off the northern coast of Honduras with maximum
sustained winds near 45 mph, according to the National Weather Service in
Miami.
Although early forecasts predicted the tropical storm could affect South
Florida, hurricane experts are now predicting that Gamma will miss Florida.
According to recent advisories, the tropical storm will move northward for
the next 24 to 36 hours, followed by a turn to the northeast, taking the
storm across central Cuba.
At 3 p.m., tropical storm force winds extended about 105 miles north of the
center. Gamma was not expected to strengthen over the next 24 hours because
of upper-level winds. The tropical storm is expected to produce 6-10 inches
of rain across central Cuba.
