MEXICO CITY --
The Mexican Navy says it has rescued 17 Cuban rafters from a tiny coral
island off Mexico's Caribbean coast.
Navy personnel say the 11 men and six women were suffering from
dehydration and had arrived aboard a makeshift raft with a diesel motor.
They were found Tuesday and taken to the mainland.
Cubans are increasingly traveling through Mexico in a bid to reach the
United States instead of trying to get past U.S. Coast Guard patrols off
Florida.
