Cuban bloggers start revolution

CUBAN BLOGGERS are conducting a mini-revolution on the island as the
government clamps down on them.

Although bloggers complain it is getting harder to evade censorship,
"Generacion Y" or "Retazos" by "El Guajiro Azul" have been looking at
some fairly controversial themes.

According to the AP, these include Cuban travel permits, flaws in the
health and education systems, political prisoners or daily hardships.

Havana claims they are all paid lots of dosh by Washington to undermine
the glorious revolution.

The blogs are also often at odds with local hacks who don't like the way
they report the news.

The hacks set up a rival website, blogcip.cu, posting a photo of one of
the bloggers, Yoani Sanchez using the Internet in what they said was a
luxurious hotel.

The bloggers are hosted by foreign servers, write their texts offline
and save them on memory cards before updating their blogs from hotel
connections or emailing friends to post their updates abroad.

The government has been leaning on the foreign hotels to stop allowing
Cubans to use their services.
