7 More Dancers Flee Cuba For U.S.

MIAMI | One month after three top Cuban dancers defected to the U.S.,
seven more have fled the communist island, according to a newspaper report.

At least seven members of the Spanish Ballet of Cuba left an arts
festival last week in the Mexican city of Merida, and four of them have
already arrived in Miami, El Nuevo Herald of Miami reported Friday.

Last month, the three members of the Cuban National Ballet defected in
Canada and crossed the border to the U.S., part of a slew of defections
in December. Among the most famous was TV host Carlos Otero.

Four members of the Cuban National Circus and the popular Cuban group
Los Tres de La Havana also made their way to the U.S.

According to the Herald, dancers Cindy Arguelles and Lisandra Frontella,
both 20, Daryl Perez, 19, and Erick Pupo, 18, arrived in Miami on
Sunday, days after defecting during Merida's International Arts Fair.

After the group's performance Jan. 17, three other dancers left the
troupe, including renowned dancer Liliana Fagoaga, according to Perez.
He said those dancers were hiding in Mexico while trying to reach the
United States.
