Social workers ride shotgun on freight trucks and school buses
HAVANA, Cuba - July 5 (Richard Roselló / www.cubanet.org) - Authorities
have assigned a batallion of social workers to ride along with the
drivers of freight trucks carrying merchandise out of the port of
Havana, and of school buses, starting July 3.
The social workers supervise the assigned vehicle's documentation,
including route sheets, bills of lading, and fuel consumption records.
They have been monitoring the operations of the Cuban oil retailing
monopoly, CUPET, since the beginning of the year.
The mostly young social workers are meant to look for irregularities in
the transportation and storage of merchandise and in the use of school
buses to transport students and others.
