Heavy rains in Cuba force evacuations
24.05.2006
A two-hour downpour late Tuesday dumped 120 millimeters (nearly 5
inches) of water in the capital, the Communist Party daily newspaper
Granma reported. Firefighters and police officers evacuated homes in
areas where water levels reached a meter (more than 3 feet) or more,
Granma said.
The city's tunnels, flooded with water, were still closed on Wednesday.
Game three of the baseball championship between the Havana team
Industriales and Santiago de Cuba was rained out Tuesday and the teams
were scheduled to try to play again Wednesday night, the AP reports.
The teams are tied after two games in the best-of-seven series, the Ap
reports.
