Cuba to send tiny squad

Cuba to send tiny squad

Cuba's head coach Lusi Morjarrieta has confirmed that the country will
only send two swimmers to the world championships in Melbourne in March.

Heisy Villarreal who is 20, and 18-year-old David Rodriguez are the two
competitors who will make the trip.

Swimming has been dumped down the list of sporting priorites in the
Communist country in recent years, and they sent just one swimmer to
Montreal in 2005.

However, they will send a diving, synchronised swimming, and women's
water polo teams to Australia.

"Even though we are not in the best of shapes at the moment it is good
for the send to send representatives to the world championships,"
Mojarrieta told the Granma newspaper.

The swimmers trip to Melbourne will be financed by FINA's development fund.
